Thirtieth Private Enterprise Essay Contest for College Students
Open to all registered under-graduate college students in the USA. The year 2012 Private Enterprise Essay Contest for college students is underway, offering cash awards to students and professors totaling $5,250, announced Robert J. Barbera, chairman of Americanism Educational Leaders.

The topics for the 2012 contest are:
Topic 1 – Federal or State Budgets
Should there be a mandatory requirement imposed upon legislators for a timely, balanced budget without deficits or surpluses?
Topic 2 – Voter Competency
Would a reading and civic knowledge test before a person is eligible to vote be beneficial?
Topic 3 – Closing Tax Loopholes
Enumerate and explain tax loopholes to be eliminated.
Topic 4 – Unemployment
How can the unemployed individual become productive without disturbing the economy?
2012 Essay Contest Guidelines
The contest is open to all registered under-graduate college and university students in the United States. First prize is $3,000, second is $1,250, and third is $1,000. Professors/teachers of the top two finishers will each receive a $250 honorarium.
Deadline for the entries is April 30, 2012. Minimum length is 1,500 words. Maximum length is 2,000 words. Essays must be typed and double spaced. Each essay must be accompanied by an Entry Form, available on our website and a brief biography. Each college instructor may submit an unlimited number of essays. Students may submit essays on more than one topic. All entries become the property of the Americanism Educational Leaders.

2012 Essay Contest Judging and Presentations
The essays will be judged – not on the basis of agreement or disagreement with the views of Americanism Educational Leaders, or on the length of their bibliographies – but on their internal logic, coherence, originality, thoughtfulness, and evidence of sound research.
A panel of prominent Southern California business and education leaders will judge the entries. Winners will be announced in June 2012. All winners will be notified via both email and U.S. mail.
